The SecMetEnz team has been strengthened: Catharina Gronkowsky, who previously completed her research internship with Marcel Schatton, is starting her Master's thesis in Thomas Classen's group this month. In future, she will be working on halogenases and thus strengthening the enzymological part of the group.

Less home office also means more dangers at the workplace. We are glad that we were able to refresh our knowledge about extinguishing agents and fire fighting strategies in theory and practice on 20.09.2023. Even though using the fire extinguisher on the simulator was exciting and instructive, we very much hope that we will never need it in practice.

In a few weeks, after Easter to be precise, the Enzyme Technology II module will start. Due to the now tightened corona situation, the module will have to take place completely online. The concept is in place and the final preparations are currently in full swing. Informative videos, exciting content and exercises are currently being created and should give students the opportunity to participate in an informative course at our institute despite the restrictions.

For more than two decades, the development of potent acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitors has been an ongoing task to treat dementia associated with Alzheimer’s disease and improve the pharmacokineticproperties of existing drugs.
