From 2011 to March 2016, Sanel worked on his PhD thesis on "Laccases in Organic Synthesis" at our institute, during which he also spent 3 months in Osaka, Japan, for research purposes. Before that he studied chemical engineering with a focus on organic chemistry. After completing a postdoctoral fellowship in Leeds in the research groups of Prof. Steve Marsden and Prof. John Blacker on "Imine reductases for the production of chiral amines", he worked for the start-up company PharmaCytics in the Netherlands. Currently Sanel holds the position of an Application Scientist and Sales Manager for NMR spectroscopy at Magritek in Aachen, Germany.

In retrospect, Sanel considers his stays abroad to be very helpful and can recommend similar activities to any doctoral student. He also underlines the importance of good teamwork during and after the PhD thesis.

Sanel, we thank you very much for sharing your experience with us.
