We wave goodbye to Rainer Goldbaum
Retirement after 39 years

Rainer Goldbaum and Jörg Pietruszka receiving numerous farewell gifts

Today we say goodbye to our long-standing colleague Rainer Goldbaum, who is entering well-deserved retirement after 39 years at the Research Centre.

Rainer joined the Institute of Enzyme Technology (IET) in 1986 and has been a key member of the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry (IBOC) since 2005. Not only did he help establish both institutes, he also played a major role in the construction of buildings 15.8 and 15.13 – visible reminders of his work that will remain for years to come. But Rainer was also indispensable to many of us in our everyday scientific work: As an NMR specialist, he was the first point of contact for measurement problems – helpful, calm and solution-oriented. In addition, he conscientiously took care of occupational safety at the institute – one of many topics on which he has supported us over the years.

The institute's retreats in the Hohes Venn, which were made possible thanks to Rainer, will also remain unforgettable. The cosy house in the forest, the night walks through the moor and the long evenings around the barbecue are fond memories for many of us. Even though the location has changed, the term ‘Venn’ will remain for us.

Personally, we particularly appreciated Rainer's good humour, his helpfulness and the fact that he always had an open ear, whether it was for a coffee or a technical problem.

Dear Rainer, we will miss you!

We wish you all the best for the next chapter of your life, good health and many wonderful moments. And of course, we hope to see you again at one or two of the Institute's celebrations!
