On Sunday, it was that time again: the Research Centre opened its doors for the popular Day of Curiosity – and our institute was there, of course. In perfect summer weather, numerous visitors took the opportunity to take a look behind the scenes of our work.
The youngest guests in particular got their money's worth: equipped with real lab coats and safety goggles, they were able to get hands-on and extract fragrances from herbs or dyes from colourful leaves. The enthusiasm was great – and our interactive stations were temporarily transformed into a real children's laboratory.
But there was also plenty on offer for the adults: an interactive display case showed how sustainability can be measured in chemistry. Various puzzles and 3D models also allowed visitors to discover the exciting phenomenon of chirality – a topic that often remains invisible in everyday life but plays a major role in nature and medicine.
As always, another highlight was the laboratory tour. Here, our employees provided insights into current research work and explained what everyday life in the laboratory at our institute looks like with the help of illustrative demonstrations.
We were particularly pleased with the many curious questions, the exciting discussions and the positive feedback from our guests. And last but not least, the great atmosphere within the team – all the supervisors at the stand and our laboratory guides were visibly enthusiastic and made the day a real success.
