Shortly before the summer break, we had the pleasure of taking part in two inspiring events.
On July 2, 2024, the AUFBRUCH graduate cluster kicked off with a festive launch event. The cluster is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) as an anchor project with 12.5 million euros. Seven academic institutions and an innovation network around the Rhineland region are involved. The aim of the cluster is to offer young scientists an outstanding, interdisciplinary education, to develop innovative approaches for a sustainable bioeconomy and to support business start-ups. Jörg Pietruszka heads one of the six innovation areas, IB3: "Increasing efficiency through integrated process concepts" and acts as spokesperson for Heinrich Heine University.

Just a few days later, on July 5, 2024, our institute seminar provided another highlight. Carolin Höfel presented her exciting doctoral project at Henkel, which gave us a fascinating insight into industrial research. Many thanks for that. We also had the pleasure of accompanying Catharina Gronkowski during her Master's defense. With her work on tryptophan halogenases in secondary metabolism enzymology, she achieved impressive systematic and meticulous results. Catharina will continue to accompany us and advance her project within the GC AUFBRUCH. The foundations she laid in her master's thesis will now be used in a larger consortium to develop modular solutions for enzymatic conversions.
We look forward to working with Catharina in the future and would like to take this opportunity to congratulate her once again on her success.
